Why you should be breast aware ( and that includes husbands and partners)

Earlier this week I posted about two friends who had breast cancer and what I learned from them. Unknown to me Dorothy – one of the friends in the story – had been approached to do an interview for Breakthrough Breast Cancer in Scotland to tell her story and I spent yesterday hosting TV camera crews here at my house while she did just that. I went along to the local radio station, Radio Forth, with her today to do an interview for them and then she went to do another TV appearance. It has all been very exciting for us but the message is really serious and important.

This is a link to one of the TV reports .

And here is a link to Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Ladies – give your breasts TLC – touch , look and check.

And guys – make sure the women in your life ( including Mums, daughters, friends as well as wives and partners) do the same.

Wow, how great to be a thread – albeit a minor one – in this story, Jackie! Thanks for letting us know, and a big ol’ hat tip to Dorothy!

Jackie, you are a true leader to stir such interest in this initiative. You mentioned you had been involved in a TV filming, but I did not realize it connected to this. Thanks for sharing on Twitter.

Many point to breast cancer as it connects to women, but this year I encountered a man who found he had breast cancer. As embarrassing as that is, it is also a wake up call for men to know about TLC, too.

Jackie, what a positive addition what you’ve been telling us in these two pieces… like you said, other people’s experiences can move and inspire others, and if that’s to action to look after themselves, so much the better

Robert , Robyn and Joanna – thanks for your comments. It is a sign of Dorothy’s approach to life in general that her involvement in this publicity campaign has given her a real buzz!

Robyn – although it is rare the same checking does apply to men.

    Hi Jackie,

This is a most serious issue, and the importance of awareness of the systems as well as regular check ups cannot be overestimated.

As you say, even men like me should at least be aware of the symptoms and should do whatever we reasonably can to encourage those who we care about get regular checked regularly.
