Sharing good practice

I took part in a seminar today – which was actually a surprise as I thought I was going to be in school all day. Never one to miss out on an opportunity to learn something new I picked a topic that I knew nothing about – nothing at all.

One of the things I am learning is that there is an acronym for everything. All sorts of shorthand is used in writing and speaking. I learned what so many of those meant today. Just as I get to grips with them though there will be new ones.

The group I was working with  was made up  of some delegates who had excellent working practices around the topic and the others who seemed to have little if anything in place. As an impartial observer I listened to the discussions and then suggested – why does the group with nothing in place not visit the other group? See it working in practice? Share ideas – ask questions?

I have come across situations like this so often. I am inclined just to ask – “can I come and see how you do that?” I have never been turned down and often both my hosts and I learn a lot more than we might have expected.

The big issue is however to find out who is doing well what you are struggling with. That’s where networking – online and in person – comes into its own.

Try it and see what happens!
