The challenges of getting about in Beautiful South Island

We flew from Auckland into the South Island on a beautiful clear day which gave us the most wonderful view of the mountains and the vineyards in the Marlborough area. Then - on the ground – we had the challenge of getting to our destinations using the very windy roads through those mountains and up the rugged coast. It really made me realise how easy it is for me to get about in Scotland. Travelling in New Zealand takes a bit more thought.

I was thinking about how much I take for granted being able to make a snap decision about shopping – or forgetting something and just popping out again to get it. Don’t get me wrong – NZ has everything we have in Scptland ( and probably more) but it seems just that wee bit harder to do ( to me as an outsider of course!)

We stayed with a lovely couple in the middle of nowhere by Scottish standards. Ann is the voluteer paramedic ( they all are apparently)based in the local town ( 40 minutes away ) and covering a large area. She forgot to take her packed meal for her overnight stint and her husband delivered it to her …

Made me smile and i will remember when I grumble about leaving something behind in future.
