Feeling like a valued customer

Over the past few weeks I have been trying out contact lenses for the first time. I went to my optician for a regular eye check and to renew my specs but decided to give contacts a go. Easier said than done though – my eyes and vision combined have conspired to make this very difficult.

Each time I went though I met the same optician and someone from the support team. They greeted my by name, said things that made it clear that they knew what was going on for me, got me coffee while I was waiting and shared personal stories while I waited.

The actual store is not exactly the most inviting building and it is not in a great location but the warmth and friendliness of the staff make up for it.

Today I finally got some lenses that seem to work – though I will have to get used to them. The lovely Linda coached me in putting them in and removing them. It took a while but she did it with patience and humour. Michael my optician came by to congratulate me on mastering the techniques.

Small things – but important things. I know they are selling me something but they also gave me the impression they cared about me as a person too.

Now all I have to do is successfully put the lenses in myself – on my own!
