Hosting American teenage basketballers!
This weekend a basketball team from New England came to play against Scottish and Irish competition. It is an under 15 team and we hosted 2 of the players. I love being involved in the world of under 18 basketball. It is never dull!
Our family connection started when our own son played for the local team at under 16 and under 18 level. After that Craig, my husband, stayed connected as team manager and I go along to games occasionally.
We are coming up to the Scottish League finals this weekend in Glasgow. Our club – the City of Edinburgh Club – is in all of the finals for the first time. Playing against the American team this weekend was great for our boys. Sport is such a leveller. Give the lads a ball and they amuse themselves for hours – without need to understand anything else about each other!
Over the past few years our team takes part in a tournament in France but this year it clashes with school exams so the boys can’t travel. It’s a pity as the experience of meeting and playing wth boys from all across Europe is something that they will not forget.
Our guests were aged 13 and 15 and I had forgotten how hard it is to communication with lads of that age. But they were extremely polite ( and quiet) and it was really a pleasure to have met them.
The will be around on Saturday and are coming along to the Scottish finals. The Scottish game is maybe not as sophisticated as it is in the States but I am sure that they will enjoy the experience all the same.
