Cobbler’s bairns
You know the situation - the cobbler’s bairn’s ( children’s)shoes are full of holes. The Doctor’s children are always sick… Well here I am having a “cobbler’s bairns” moment. I have been asked to submit an application for a potential client engagement in the form of a CV. Now my challenge is to make my CV - my own personal advert - effective and of the highest quality.
So where to start? Well every potential employer wants to see what your formal education/qualifications are and to some extent where you got them. Other important details include how to contact you ( duh!) but not your age or marital status - which still appear on an alarming number of CVs I see.
Then something about the roles you have had and the responsiblities in those roles including what you consider to be your achievements in those roles - most recent first. Those tasked with sifting loads of applications get bored by the second page of a CV so make sure your key stuff is on the first!
And finally - and crucially - include something about who you are not just what you do -values, skills, what you enjoy…etc
Right now…off we go!
