Is it alright to be me at work?

At a recent conference on Talent Management the opening speaker Norman Drummond encouraged the delegates to think about the above question. Norman is the founder of the Columba1400 leadership centre in Skye mentioned in the previous blog entry.
I often hear from my clients that they feel like a “square peg in a round hole” at work. Some have been described as a “maverick”. Most organisations have their own distinct culture which comes from the history and the people who work there. Fitting into that culture can turn out to be a challenge.
Sometimes the discomfort comes from a clash in values - maybe around how people are treated, or the nature of the business or how it is done. In other cases is could be seeing other ( and possibly better) ways of doing things and suggesting that ruffles feathers.
If you have reached the stage where you are a different person at home or with your friends than you are at work it might be worth exploring why that is.
Contact me for suggestions on how to look at your values.
