Standing Up to Antisocial Behaviour Awards
Filed Under Leadership, Personal development, Scotland, Personal awareness, Fulfilling potential, Community
I was delighted to hear that a project involving Angela Clyde - an ex colleague of mine - called the Tranent Football Project - won a “Standing Up to Antisocial Behaviour Award”. I watched the short video of the participants talking about the project ( link below)
I was most struck by the comments the young men interviewed had about why it worked. In particular that they gave something back - litter picking and clearing graffitti - in return for getting to use the facilities - not wanting things to be “handed on a plate”. But what comes across most for me is that though involvement in the project they have ditched some of their old habits and have begun to recognise their own worth as a person - and are keeping out of trouble, going back to school, finding work. There were also comments of being part of something that people actually wanted to belong to.
Not much different to the rest of us really.
