Are you afraid to show your creativity?
I’m sure it’s not just me who hears stories about people who have great ideas but don’t share them because they don’t think they are clever/special/senior/important enough for them to matter. Or because they are not perfect. Or because somebody you know does it so much better.
Imagine what could happen if we were all a wee bit braver and showed our creativity but talking about – even partially formed – ideas. Or showing something you have made. Or putting on a performance…
Here’s an idea. I am experimenting with acrylic paints . The intention was that only I would see what I did….but I have decided to take my own brave step and share it with you.
Of course this could mean that those with more experience than me could criticise my work . I expect though that it’s really more likely that they will offer advice and guidance. I don’t think I live in a Pollyanna world – I genuinely think that people will step up and help when asked.
So why not think about sharing your own creativity – in whatever form it takes – today. And tell us what happens when you do?

I am so glad, Jackie, that you published that piece of art! It actually makes me wanting to see more of it!
Great post Jackie.
I once saw a card that said something along the lines of “imagine how much more we would try to do achieve if we knew with absolute certainty whatever we tried to do would be successful”. I wish I could remember the correct words, they were truly inspirational but I hope I captured the idea.
BTW, love the painting.
I have done a grand total of 2 acrylic paintings Ulla …so I will need to get cracking and do more before I have any material to share – but with your encouragement I am inspired to do just that! Thank you
I know the card you mean. I ask the coaching question “if money were no object what would you do with your time..” _ and now I will add ” if you were sure that it would be a success what would you set out to do now…” with the follow up questions around how you will ever know if something can be successful if you don’t make your intentions public! Thank you
“Listen to anyone with an original idea, no matter how absurd it may sound at first. If you put fences around people, you get sheep. Give people the room they need.” — William McKnight, 3M President
Kind of sums up how I feel. As a journalist – and an inherently nosey individual – I always ask the silly question. People might laugh, but I usually get a brilliant answer.
There’s no such thing as a silly question – we know that. Only questions that need to be asked! Thank you for the comment Michelle – that quote is excellent. The creative people in some organisations get a bad deal…they need to jump the fence of that pen to be true to themselves:-)
Jackie – if you put yourself and your creations out there, you inspire and encourage others by example – so thank you for posting this… I’m honoured to have seen the original in all it’s glory.
I wonder if we could foster the notion of questions as creative, rather than daft? What if, by asking, we are requiring a new response to an old viewpoint? I think that gets us into the realms of creating and building.
I also love the sheep quote….might use that some day….

Thank you Julie! Your comment has inspired another post…will link you to it when it is written!

OMG!
I just love that. Do you do bespoke work? Heh. I think you’ve found a new calling. Somebody call Julia Cameron, there’s a new creative artist in town.
Excellent job and good on you as always for actually talking the talk and walking the walk.
Thank you….don’t want to get ahead of myself here. Like all ideas there is a period of development needed…and that’s where I am at. Don’t know how long that will take or even what the end result will be – which is the joy of it!
