For those who do not follow soccer Cristiano Ronaldo is a wonderful young player in the Manchester United team. Hugely talented he is usually at the heart of any Man U success and is widely regarded as one of the best players in Britain - maybe even the world.
So…. when he turned up to take a penalty kick in a crucial cup game against Spanish team Barcelona this week nobody was concerned. And then he missed!
Calamity!!
Soccer fans are notoriously fickle in their allegiance to players. What is Ronaldo to do? He knows that missing the penalty was a potentially massive blow to Man U’s chances to going through to the next round of the competition but he is focusing on what he will do to make sure that he scores in the return match. I would not bet against him realising that aim.
The moral of the story?Even the greatest, most reliable amongst us - in any field - make mistakes. Those who are truly great learn from them and move on to even bigger and better things.

Either that or they become announcers!
(Sorry, Jackie; couldn’t resist! I’ll go home now.)
We are soccer fans in our family and use it to relay all sorts of life lessons. Saw this article recently that also relayed a life lesson about how even the pros make mistakes…

Lol - Robert ….never a truer word!
Peggy - a lot of life’s lessons can be learned from sport. I am posting on that theme again today. Thanks for the link.!
Just found out I missed the deadline for the London Marathon next year. So yes … we do make some howlers!!!
Dave - I had no idea that you had to commit so far in advance so this comes as no surprise to me! Maybe you should try the Edinburgh marathon instead - though I suspect the demand is still great you never know…
