I am sure my good friend Robert Hruzek at Middle Zone Musings won’t mind me basing this post on the excellent content of his own!

I was browsing through my usual feeds ( for those who are not into the jargon of blogging that means “favourites” - or it does to me anyway) and found his latest list of quotes. As usual it got me thinking and this one included some real gems.

For example, according to Franklin D Roosevent “It is common sense to take a method and try it. If it fails , admit it frankly and try another. But above all try something” (my emphasis).

Follow this with Pablo Picasso saying “I am always doing what I can not do, in order that I  may learn how to do it” and you just might begin to see a pattern.

Add to this  “Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body” by Sir Richard Steele and with that sort of advice from people who had some experience of success (just a little..) and you could be well on your way.

But hold on. It might not all be plain sailing. Getting started is one thing but as Will Rogers said “Even if you are on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there”

And it might just be that you will need some help. In which case you could do worse than take Bertrand Russell’s advice “The greatest challenge to any thinker is stating the problem in a way that will allow a solution” before going any further.

So far so positive. If James Branch Cabell is right and “The optimist proclaims that we live in the best of all possible worlds; and the pessimists fear that this is true” and you find that you fall into the second category, Robert Anthony saying ” Most people would rather be certain they’re miserable than risk being happy” might resonate. If you find you agree with Hagar the Horrible ( Yes. Really ) “As you journey through life take a minute every now and then to give thought to the other fellow. He could be plotting something.” your journey could be an interesting one.

So there you are . Jackie’s thought for the day combined with those of some other great thinkers ( so modest of me - I know!).

I hope it made you smile - and if it made you think then so much the better!
