School fuel and knitted cereal – the power of advertising to kids
I have had the pleasure of helping out at our Breakfast Club this week as the mainstay of the team is poorly. I am not as bright and bubbly in the morning as I am later in the day but being with the children as they get stuck into their breakfast has been a joy.
They are offered toast with either jam or cheese, cereal and fruit juice.
I have had the job of serving the cereal. One little lad came to me on my first day for a serving of Shreddies and as he was walking away he said he was off to eat his “school fuel”…I didn’t get it right away so I asked him what he meant and he quoted the advert.
Then another little bright spark asked me if I thought the ladies really knitted the little squares of Shreddies – I think we agreed that they might or they might not – lol.
Nobody mentioned snap crackle and pop – that’s possibly more my generation.
But I realise now the impact that advertising has on children. In this case, thankfully, positive and encouraging.
