Maths in action

A group of parents, teachers and pupils were working on a questionnaire about health issues at the school yesterday. We split into groups to start to analyse the data. I was working with a young lady from Primary 5 – that makes her 9.

After she had read out the responses and I did the calculations we looked together at what area most respondents were dissatisfied with and what kinds of things they thought were good. I asked the questions – she easily gave me the answers. Children never fail to amaze me at how much they are capable of doing/understanding!

At the end of the session a fellow pupil asked the head if he could do more of this – as it was much better than maths!

That made me smile.

Another teacher friend said that sometimes her pupils say that they have not done any work in a particular day. Her view of course is quite different…clever stuff.
