Struggling with the communication tools
I have now been working at Forthview Primary School for 3 weeks and I am having a great time. I am on a very steep learning curve -that’s the point. I realise now that the nature of what is going on in a school means that you have to stop doing something and switch seamlessly to something else – all the time. That’s fun!
The biggest frustration for me is not being able to navigate my way round the sources of information available. City of Edinburgh Council is of course a large and widespread organisation and there will be access to more information than I will ever need. Maybe that is the problem.
The challenge with information sources – especially using the internet – is to sift through what is there and get what you set out looking for.
Quickly and efficiently.
It’s just not happening for me. I can’t remember a time when I have pushed so many notes round and round without being able to actually do something with them!
So I should just call someone and ask them to help me. There’s the rub. There are so many helpdesks that ploughing through that takes up valuable time too.
When did I get to be so impatient? I guess that’s just what it’s like when you are out of your comfort zone.
Anyone out there with any tips I would love to hear them. And words of encouragement would be helpful too!
Just a thought though - I have only been doing the job for 3 weeks….will reflect on this after 3 months.

Well we are loving having you. Far better you push those papers round than me! Have a wonderful holiday and be certain that even after just 3 weeks, we surely will miss you.
Sheila
Thank you for being patient Sheila! I had my Strengthsfinder coaching session last night. On the basis that I should focus on developing my strengths and choosing wisely which weaknesses ( oh how I hate that word but it’s what is used in this context as the opposite of strength)to invest my time in I will reflect on how to get over this “hurdle”. lol!
And although I will be on the other side of the world I feel sure that my thoughts will be drawn to Forthview from time to time – in a good way of course.
