Looking for a job – Hints and Tips (2)

Here’s the second part of my suggestions for finding a job.

On an ongoing basis gather together the evidence of what you have to offer.

Even when you do have a job keep gathering. You will be able to use what you have either for promotions or job changes in your current organisation or to take to a new employer

Gathering evidence should start at school, carry on through further or higher education or training, into summer and weekend jobs, volunteer positions, team membership – anything that shows what you can do and of which you can give an example if asked. That’s what I mean by evidence!

Before you can gather though you need to recognise what strengths and skills you have to offer. Ask people – friends, colleagues, team-mates, bosses, teachers – anyone who knows you to tell you what they admire about you.

Trust this process!

And believe what they tell you. Think of it as getting a reference from someone only you hear what they have to say rather than it going to your potential employer.
