Verifying memories – with Google’s help
I was prompted recently to talk about my earliest memory. As far as I am concerned it was of my brother being born at home when I was 3. Maybe a professional could get me back further than that – don’t know.
I tried this question with some friends and when we had explored our toddler years we wandered into other areas of our memories.
Then I remembered that on my vinyl records sometimes you could messages scratched in the centre – round the whole which fitted onto the record player ( anyone under 30 has now gone blank…)
Nobody else remembered this and as most of us have any vinyl records stored in unreachable parts of the attic if they have not been binned there was no way of checking. Unless…
Sometimes I surprise myself with my randomness but indeed messages were scratched into the middle of records. According to the source I found this was started by Phil Spector – but then how could anyone verify that now?
I was listening to a programme about Wikipedia this morning. One of the contributors said that in his view anyone who wanted to find out about a topic would have to know it inside out before they could be sure of the accuracy of its entry on Wikipedia. I guess I am inclined to double check most of what I access online. I am possibly just to cynical for my own good.
But I love the fact that I can back up my vinyl story..now off for some more random thoughts!
