National “I like me” day
Posted on June 7th, 2007 in Personal awareness |
OK - I made this day up. But wouldn’t it be a good idea?
One day a year when we all admit to liking ourselves
- not when you have lost a few pounds
- not if my hair was shorter/longer/tidier/blonder
- not when I get that next promotion
- not when Mr or Ms Right comes along
- not when I can afford that face lift
RIGHT NOW!
I watch a UK TV programme “How to look good naked”. The adorable Gok Wan loves women ( unless he is a very good actor) and treats them like precious objects. He encourages them out of their body hating position and eventually gets them to agree to being photographed ( tastefully) without clothes. (Sadly the blurb about his show is accompanied by stuff about anothe programme - 10 years younger - which somewhat contradicts the way Gok looks at working with what you already are!)
The disturbing thing is that so many women want to sign up to “bare all” in more than one way. They all have a huge hangup about some part of their body which is stopping them living their lives. Last night the lady hated her legs so much she wore tights all the time - even in bed! Now of course we know that this is not normal behaviour. She knew that too - but every time she looked in the mirror she did not see the lovely naturally curly hair, cute smile and really normal figure - she just saw her hated legs.
What was both sad and heartening was that she said that since she got to like her body her relationships had improved.
So why not have an “I like me day”. You never know - you might find you do!

A great idea Jackie. Wouldn’t it be nice if we were all able to list the 10 things we DO like about our selves as quickly as the things we don’t? I like “I like me” day!
Oh I agree Bob. Maybe “I Like Me Day” will catch on!

[...] In June I had a bit of fun but with a serious message. I still think Gok Wan is one of the nicest people on TV. [...]
