On my way back from Shetland I bought a copy of the local newspaper. I do this whenever I travel - it usually provides some real insights into the issues for the community. I was particularly interested in a court report.A 16 year old  had been given 2 weeks to come back to court by the sheriff with a plan for his future. He had put the fact that he was out of work as a reason for his crime and ( according to the report) he blamed JobCentre Plus for not finding him a job. The sheriff pointed out that we all have to take responsibility for ourselves and the time for him to do so was now!

I was really impressed by this wise advice. I really hope the young man gets some support to work on his plan and that that is the last time he has anything to do with the court system.

Planning your own life and future is very empowering. I have worked with people from all walks of life and know that even when the choices seem to be limited ( no matter what is going on in the background) the important thing is to make a choice and not leave things to others.
